Aswan Intl Women Film Festival Announces Open Call for Film Submission

The Aswan International Women Film Festival, dedicated to female creative expression in the region since 2017, announced an open call for film submissions in preparation for their 7th edition, set to be held from March 5th to March 10th, 2023. Filmmakers are encouraged to apply from August 18th until the end of November, 2022.

Submitted films must be either written or directed by women, and may encompass any theme. The stories are expected to tackle womanhood and women empowerment, including films created by male artists. Participating films may fall into one of two categories: feature films including fiction, documentary, and animation more than sixty minutes long, or short films - within the same three genres - that are less than sixty minutes long.

The festival is an artistic celebration of Egypt’s cinematic queens. During the 6th edition in February 2022, legendary actress Sawsan Badr was honoured with the Isis Achievement Award for her lifetime contribution to Egyptian cinema. Aswan International Film Festival is also a learning hub for emerging filmmakers, launching annual workshops within the festival’s program, as well as seminars and panel discussions on women’s issues.
