The 6th edition of El Gouna Film Festival (GFF), set to take place from October 12th to the 20th, will honour Egyptian director Marwan Hamed with the Career Achievement Award in recognition of his contributions to Arab cinema.

Hamed is known for his distinct cinematic adaptations of renowned literary works, from his debut feature film ‘Yacoubian Building’ (2006) to his ongoing cinematic collaboration with famed Egyptian author Ahmed Mourad in ‘The Blue Elephant’ (2014) and ‘Kira we El Gen’ (2022). He also directed several original screenplays including ‘Ibrahim El Abyad’ (2009) and ‘The Originals’ (2017).

The director’s latest release, ‘Kira we El Gen’, is currently counted amongst the top ten highest-earning films in the Egyptian box office. Hamed’s Career Achievement Award is part of GFF’s mission to recognize young filmmakers and their impact on contemporary cinema across the region.
