Jamming With Hamid Al Shaeri, Hisham Abbas & Akram Hosny

Nineties pop sensations Hamid El Shaeri and Hisham Abbas are not new to rebellion and despite having spent decades revolutionising Arabic pop - consequently defining the sound for multiple generations - their journey does not sever there.

The veteran musicians announced their return with an unexpected collaborative project alongside comedian, actor, songwriter and singer, Akram Hosny, in ‘El Sahar Wl Enbesat’.

With Libyan-Egyptian artist El Shaeri’s ‘Ouda’ and ‘Khodny Ben Edek’ (both of which went from cassette classics to viral TikTok sounds), Abbas’s ‘Fenoh’ and ‘Habibi Dah’ acting as soundtracks of the early 2000s and Hosny’s ‘Setto Ana’ being one of 2022's most streamed songs, ‘El Sahar W Elenbesat’ serves to showcase the artists’s multifariousness.

The new single is both playful and catchy. Fusing their individual styles, the song is interspersed with humourous and playful tones as well as lyrics that bridge the gap between nineties nostalgia and contemporary viral beats.

In this #CairoScene exclusive interview, we sat down with the trio in a laid-back jam session as they shared the tale of how the collaboration came to be.
