New Documentary Celebrates Life of Famed Composer Hany Shenouda

The life of contemporary music pioneer Hany Shenouda is captured in a new short documentary, shot inside the very same studio that birthed his extensive discography that has since defined an era of Arab music. Directed by Egyptian filmmakers Nada Mawsouf and Mohamed El-Fallal, the film - titled ‘A Magical Musical Journey - Hany Shenouda’ - was commissioned by The American University in Cairo, ahead of their honorary concert celebrating Shenouda in 2020.

With Shenouda’s narration, the documentary recounts his founding of El Masreyeen, Egypt’s first modern band in the 1970s, his discovery of countless Arab music icons including Amr Diab and Mohamed Mounir, and lastly the way Shenouda’s music has reached international audiences, most recently as part of the soundtrack of hit Hulu series ‘Ramy’.

‘A Magical Musical Journey - Hany Shenouda’ is now available on Vimeo.
