Supreme Council for Media Regulation Announces Rules for Ramadan TV

The Holy Month of Ramadan is the time for us to all get together after iftaar and watch a hundred commercials with snippets of high-quality television entertainment in between. And the Supreme Council for Media Regulation wants to make sure that everything going on TV stays on the level according to their rules for Ramadan.

The rules contain a fair amount of positive incentives, like making sure that the series promote fun and knowledge, spread joy and show off the beauty of society.

There is also some finger-wagging amongst these rules, warning against gratuitous obscenity - whether that's in terms of dialogue or action - that does not serve the story of the series, and against the glorification of crime by showcasing heroes that embody the worst aspects of society.

The regulations also ask for television shows and commercials to avoid inciting hatred, discrimination or humiliation of any human beings, to refrain from scenes that show drug abuse especially amongst the youth, and to emphasize on the positive image of women, as well as Egypt's military forces.
