50,000 EGP Fine for Slaughtering Livestock in the Streets this Eid

With Eid Al Adha just around the corner, Egypt is gearing up for the festive occasion with a little more caution than usual.

Following years of controversy surrounding the ritual sacrifice of animals during the Muslim holiday, the authorities are finally mobilising to make this Eid a slightly less bloody one.

Red Sea Governor Ahmed Abdullah unveiled a new law by which a fine of 50,000 EGP will be imposed on those who conduct said rituals in the streets of Hurghada – which falls under the Red Sea governorate’s jurisdiction. Abdullah also added that livestock slaughter must be restricted to slaughterhouses which are fully equipped to handle the demand throughout Eid, reports El Badil.

According to Bawabet Al Ahram, a similar law was enforced in Cairo last year whereupon people who were caught slaughtering cattle in public streets were fined EGP 5000.
