Egypt and Italy Agree to Build City for Leather Tanneries

Looking at its fashion industry, if there's one thing we're sure that Italians appreciate, it's a good piece of leather. So it might not be too much of a surprise to learn that Italy is teaming up with Egypt to create a city dedicated to supporting the Egyptian tradition of leather tanning. Not to be confused with the act of lounging on the beach, ‘Al Robbiki Leather City’  tanneries will process animal skins and hides to create leather, while adhering to a strict set of modern, environmentally-friendly processes.

The plan to establish the city also comes with the transfer of pre-existing tanneries – most of which are located in Old Cairo’s Magra El-Eyoon area – to Al Robbiki Leather City.
