Honoris Universities Acquires Merit University in New Sohag City

Merit University in New Sohag City has been acquired by Honoris United Universities, a pan-African private sector higher education operator with a lineup of universities in Morocco, Nigeria, Tunisia, and Mauritius. This would be the operator's first major investment in Egypt.

Although the amount paid has not been disclosed, it is reportedly one of the larger investments made by Honoris United Universities. Private equity giant Actis, the majority owner of Honorus United Universities, has hinted at plans to invest further into Egypt.

As one of only four private universities in Upper Egypt, Merit University is the only one of its kind in Sohag, and was particularly attractive as an investment due to its focus on STEM, and its dedicated faculties in medicine.
