The United States is sending 1.6 million doses of Pfzier's COVID-19 vaccine to Egypt. According to a statement from the US Embassy in Cairo, "These 1.6 million Pfizer vaccine doses are a gift from the U.S. Government to the people of Egypt and are part of our commitment to defeat the pandemic."

The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is given in two shots, 21 days apart, and requires special refrigeration units that can store these vaccine doses in temperatures of 2C to 8C. Earlier this September, the Ministry of Health and Population received many of these refrigerators from UNICEF through the COVAX facility.

Egypt's mass vaccination campaign has been constantly expanding since January. According to Our World in Data, a resource by the Oxford Martin Programme on Global Development and the University of Oxford, at least 16.2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Egypt, with 5.7 million people in Egypt fully vaccinated.
