65 Cairo Sidewalks Have Become Accessible for People With Disabilities
65 sidewalks, as well as major government buildings, were installed with ramps across Maadi and Zamalek.
The Ministry of Local Development has enacted their national sidewalk rehabilitation project, which focuses on making sidewalks more accessible to individuals with disabilities. The first phase of the project is focused in Maadi and Zamalek, where they have renovated 65 sidewalks by adding ramps at both ends to facilitate movement.
The ministry will implement the project in the governorates of Luxor and Aswan, in coordination with the Misr El Kheir Foundation. In Maadi, 28 ramps were installed across the district, including 10 on Street 9 and 8, and 10 in the vicinity of the Corniche and Maadi Club. Meanwhile, 37 ramps were built in Zamalek, including four in front of the embassies of Iraq, India, the Netherlands, and Libya, four in each of Al-Jabalaya Street and the Revolutionary Command Council, and 11 in front of various government buildings. Five more ramps were added on Al-Tahrir Street and Mohamed Abd El-Wahhab, and the final two are on 26th of July Street, in front of Zamalek Central, and Mokhtar El Touch Street, in front of the Opera Gate.
