CAS Officially Bans Egypt from Weightlifting at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics

The Court of Arbitration (CAS) has struck down Egyptian Weightlifting Federation's appeal against its two-year ban from international competitions, including the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The ban was issued last September by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).

In addition to the ban, the CAS kept the USD 200,000 fine on the Egyptian Weightlifting Federation.

The suspension was the result of seven young weightlifters’ positive doping tests in 2016. The IWF rules dictate that if any federation has three positive results or more in the span of a one-year period, they face a two-year suspension.
