Clinical Trials Begin for Egyptian COVID-19 Vaccine Egy-Vax

Clinical trials have begun for Egypt’s second locally-made coronavirus vaccine, Egy-Vax. Once ready, large-scale production of the vaccine will see 1.6 million doses produced daily.

After an agreement signed in December between the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research, the Ministry of Agriculture, and Eva Pharma, the vaccine will be manufactured as per the requirements of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), in order to be accredited abroad for export.

In November, Egypt started clinical trials for its first domestic vaccine, COVI-VAX, which is manufactured by the VACSERA drug company.

Through Eva Pharma’s production lines in 6th of October City, the total annual output will be set at 500 million doses.

Egypt will also start creating mRNA COVID-19 vaccines over the next few months, after the country was picked by the WHO to receive the technology necessary to produce them.
