EGP 324M Invested in Improving Phone Network on Major Roads in Egypt

Hurrah! Losing phone network signal during long road trips to some of the country’s great destinations will no longer be an issue. The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has begin implementing a new plan to expand cell phone coverage on five main roads in Ismailia, Suez, New Valley, Aswan, Giza, Beni Suef, and Minya at a cost of EGP324 million. The project hopes to enhance social cohesion and stimulate greater economic growth as part of a nationwide project to provide basic communication services and road aid on strategic roads across the country. It also means Anghami won’t quit on you in the middle of a desert highway.

The first road, which links Ismailia and Suez, extends across the 30th of June Axis from Cairo-Ain Sokhna Road to the Cairo-Ismailia Desert Road. The second road is the Paris Lake Spillway road in the New Valley governorate. The third road connects Aswan-Abu Simbel Road to Arqin in Aswan. The fourth road is Al-Kuraymat Road to Beni Suef, which links Giza with Beni Suef. The fifth and final road connects the Cairo-Assiut Desert Road and the Cairo-Aswan Eastern Desert Road in Minya.

NTRA will launch a limited tender for companies licensed to establish and operate mobile phone base stations, with the services scheduled to start operating by 2022.
