Egypt Receives Over 3.5 Million Doses of Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine

Following an initial batch of 784,280 doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine from Canada last week, Egypt recently received an additional 3.5 million doses. Both shipments were delivered through COVAX, an international initiative that ensures the equitable distribution of the coronavirus vaccine around the world.

With these Moderna shipments, Egypt has secured every kind of COVID-19 vaccine that is currently available worldwide. This latest shipment brings Egypt closer to reaching its goal of vaccinating 40 million citizens by the end of 2021, and raises the total number of doses received by Egypt to over 77 million.

The shipment will be subject to inspection in the Egyptian Drug Authority’s laboratories before being distributed to Egypt’s 1,100 vaccine centers nationwide.  The Moderna vaccine requires two jabs administered 21 days apart and is approved for emergency use from the World Health Organization.
