Egypt to Take Part in World Clean-Up Day on September 21st
Time to roll up your sleeves.
Egypt is set to officially take part in World Clean-Up Day 2019 by hosting four huge clean-up events in Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Minya and the Red Sea governorate, according to Ahram Online.
Lead by the Chamber of Diving and Waters Sports, several diving centres have announced their participation in a push that focuses on protected areas and water resources. In Sharm El Sheikh, the Nabq Protected Area will be the site of a community clean-up event, while the Red Sea governorate and Dahab will host clean-ups of scuba diving sites. In Minya, meanwhile, local startup, Greenish, is set to lead a Nile clean-up, in line with similar clean-ups the group has organised Cairo and Luxor.
The news comes in light of a recent wave of similar projects, as well as the Red Sea governorate becoming the first to ban single-use plastics and Dahab’s plans to do the same.
An estimated 18 million volunteers from 157 countries took part in World Clean-up 2018.
