Egyptian Tennis Player First in 42 Years to Qualify for Australian Open

For the first time since 1978, an Egyptian tennis player has qualified for the Australian Open. The man in question is Mohamed Safwat, who qualified for the event when he beat Russian national Evgeny Donkey 7-5 and 6-4 in the final qualifying round.

For the first game of the tournament, our star player will be going head-to-head with Gregoire Barrere in the opening match of the Australian Open on January 20th.

This latest conquest comes just months after Safwat qualified for the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 after winning gold in the African Games.
