Flights to Resume Between Cairo & Yemen's Sana'a After Six Year Pause

After a six year pause, the first passenger flight between Cairo and Sana’a, the constitutional capital of Yemen, has officially been scheduled for June 1st.

Flights between the two cities have been paused for the past six years, shortly following the start of the Yemeni Civil War. In 2016, Saudi Arabia imposed restrictions that led to the closure of the airport in Sana’a. Afterwards, only international organizations were allowed to enter the airport.

In April 2022, the United Nations brokered a two-month ceasefire between the newly-formed Presidential Leadership Council and the Houthi movement.  Earlier this month, Yemen’s first commercial flight took off from Sana’a to Amman in Jordan. With more flights being given the green light, some take it as a sign of significant progress for Yemen’s international relations.
