Forbes Identifies Cairo As One Of The Top 10 Cities To Launch A Startup

Well, well, well, Cairo. Just when we thought the only top 10 lists you'd ever make were the horrendous ones, you manage to surprise us once again - and apparently surprise the rest of the world, too! Forbes Magazine, the American business beast, recently touched base with the folks at Seedstars World who've just published an interactive map of the top 10 cities in the world to launch a startup

Egyptian entrepreneurs have reason to celebrate as Egypt makes the top 10 cities to launch a startup. “Cairo is also home to some of the best engineering talent in MENA, and that has to do with the quality of universities they have there,” Seedstars World Founder Alisee de Tonnac tells Forbes, adding that “The mass of young, educated and enlightened graduates in Egypt are now turning out an array of startups. Despite challenges, entrepreneurs are figuring out new ways: they are exploiting the birth of many new accelerators and crowdfunding campaigns.” The magazine also mentioned Flat 6 Labs, the masters behind Instabug - the app that provides constant feedback to other mobile apps.

While it may come as a shock for some due to our current political and economic situation, the folks at Seedstars World believe otherwise. Cairo is quickly becoming a hub for many startups, with the Greek Campus alone being home to more than 40 startups. It doesn’t stop there, though. Unless you've been living under a rock, you should know that Cairo is scheduled to host RiseUp Summit, the annual summit that provides startups with an opportunity for exposure, resources, and advice.

Cracking the top 10 alongside Egypt were London, Tunis, Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, Moscow, Warsaw, Sydney, Sofia, and Bangalore.
