Govt Employees Will Work Remote on Sundays to Reduce Electricity Usage

Egyptian Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, has urged citizens and the state to reduce electricity consumption due to the ongoing crisis of high temperatures and their impact on the electricity sector.

To address the situation, the government has taken several measures, including importing additional diesel fuel worth up to USD 300 million, until the end of August. Dr. Madbouly has also directed all parties to ration public lighting, urged sports facilities to schedule matches before sunset, and allowed employees in non-public facing government departments to work from home on Sundays in August.

Private companies are also encouraged to allow employees to work from home to further reduce consumption. Load reduction for one to two hours per day when temperatures exceed 35 degrees has also been agreed upon, along with a daily crisis committee to monitor implementation.

These measures aim to balance the electricity network and ensure its stability.
