Industrial Complex to Produce Prosthetics to Be Established in Egypt
The hope is to make prosthetics more easily accessible to over 10 million Egyptians living with disabilities.
The Egyptian government will soon establish an industrial complex that will focus on local production of prosthetic limbs in accordance with international standards. The complex will include factories producing prosthetics, orthoses, prefabricated materials, wheelchairs and mobility aids, orthopedic shoes, and silicone products, as well as a scientific research segment aiming to localize the industry.
The hope is to make the industrial complex’s products more easily accessible to over 10 million Egyptians living with disabilities.
The Ministry of Social Solidarity also allocated an annual budget of USD 5 billion to support Egyptians with disabilities and special needs, some of which will go towards making public spaces more accessible, as well as a separate fund for inclusion as part of the national ‘Haya Karima’ initiative.
