Ministry of Petroleum Converts 500,000 Vehicles to Run on Natural Gas

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has announced that it has converted over 500,000 vehicles to run on natural gas, as part of the ministry’s plan to reduce consumption of petroleum.

The initiative hopes to reduce harmful carbon emissions, as well support road safety. As part of the initiative, the Egyptian launched the Aging Vehicle Replacement Initiative in 2014 to replace petroleum fuelled cars with more eco-friendly options. The country established its first centre for converting cars to run on natural gas in March 2023.

In line with these developments, the government has expanded the number of its natural gas refuelling stations to 910.
