New Law on Measures to Fight Epidemics & Pandemics

The Egyptian Parliament has officially passed a set of epidemic laws. While the Egyptian government has previously passed a number of decisions to curb the spread of the virus throughout the COVID-19 pandemic - such as limiting public gatherings, stopping school and university classes, and so on - these decisions were passed individually. Now, Parliament has gathered them in an official protocol that will be used from this day onwards when and if necessary.

These new laws state that schools and universities are liable to closure, and that a nationwide curfew may be implemented, with limits placed on public and private gatherings.

Public spaces and institutions can be allocated for medical services, while private hospital fees for certain medicines and services may be capped at a particular price.

Travellers arriving to Egypt may be asked to quarantine for a set duration.

Finally, pandemic-related laws cannot be preliminarily passed for over 365 days in advance. Any and all pandemic-related laws must be approved by parliament.
