The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system promises to redefine how we think of buses in Cairo entirely, with electric buses on its own express lane.
Construction has begun on all-new bus stations that will help make public transport on the Ring Road all the smoother. The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system promises to redefine how we think of buses in Cairo entirely; tall-electric buses, manufactured in Volvo’s factories in Gothenburg, Sweden, will come with electronic ticketing and a designated, isolated express lane to enable passengers to glide to their destinations.
Pedestrian crossings and a new traffic light system will also come into effect once upgrades are complete. The implementation of the BRT system also includes added stops at regular intersections, and a ban on microbuses on the Ring Road.
The BRT system is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2022.
