Project to Renovate Siwa Village Now Almost Complete

As if it were possible to make Siwa even more charming, Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities continues its mission to revive the oasis’s relic Shali village as part of its countrywide plan to preserve Egyptian monumental sites. The village dates back to over 800 years and is considered of massively significant cultural and historic heritage.

The project includes the restoration of Shali’s homes and streets and, our favorite part, plans on tracing and finding more of the village’s magical fortress and ruins. If you’ve never been, yes, we just said fortress and ruins. Siwa's not just a puddle in the middle of the desert, people!

The renovation, now at a 90% completion rate, was carried out using natural materials locally sourced from Siwa, and also brings Siwa its own social welfare and healthcare centre.
