Sherif Osman Wins Gold at 2021 World Para Powerlifting Championships

Egypt's Sherif Osman cements his supremacy in the world of para powerlifting after winning his fifth world title and eighth global crown, bringing home the gold medal at the World Para Powerlifting Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia. Osman lifted 190 kg to secure the title, and then added another 5 kg on top of that, just because he could.

Osman's legendary status in para powerlifting was first established in the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing when he broke the world record with a 202.5 kg lift, before beating his own record at the 2010 IPC Powerlifting World Championship by lifting 205 kg. He won another gold medal at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio, and then won silver at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, which Osman has attributed to a 4 cm rupture in his muscle one month before the event. With this most recent victory, Osman is on the warpath to continue his gold streak straight through to the 2024 Paralympics in Paris.
