Swimmer Sayed Baroky to Cross New Suez Canal in Record-Breaking Bid

On October 5th, Egyptian monofin swimmer Sayed Baroky is going to try to do something nobody has ever done before. He's going to attempt to cross all 35 kilometres of the New Suez Canal with both his legs locked down in a monofin. This epic undertaking is organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Egyptian Diving and Lifesaving Federation, and is part of the celebration of Egypt's victory in the 6th of October war.

Sayed Baroky's monofin-based achievements have a long history, including a previous Guinness World Record for highest jump with a monofin at 2 metres in April 2011, alongside Italian swimmers Stegano Figini and Cesare Fumarola. He held the record for nearly a decade until fellow Egyptian Omar Sayed Shaaban claimed the title in November 2020, with a jaw-dropping jump of 2.30 metres. (Fun fact - Sayed Baroky and Omar Sayed Shaaban both come from Ismailia!)
