UK Joins Kemama Campaign to Support Working Women in Qena

The United Kingdom has joined the ‘Kemama’ campaign to support working women in Upper Egypt’s Qena. The campaign was started by Al Nidaa Foundation, a United Nations Development Program project that is normally focused on ending poverty in Upper Egypt through job creation, to protect vulnerable communities from COVID-19.

“We are proud to be part of this initiative, which has already had real success in helping vulnerable communities protect themselves against Covid-19,” British Ambassador to Egypt Sir Geoffrey Adams said. “By supporting this campaign, we are also directly supporting the employment and economic empowerment of Egyptian women, a top priority for the UK.”

Since its launch in 2020, the ‘Kemama’ campaign has raised around EGP300,000 and secured over 100 women full-time employment at Al Nidaa Foundation. Al Nidaa shifted its factory production from clothing garments to medical masks, and made over 63,000 affordable medical masks for people in Qena, Sohag, and Luxor.
