From Near-Closure to Opening a New Branch: ROOM Art Space Expands to New Cairo

At the end of 2016, ROOM Art Space founder, Ahmed Zeidan, appeared in a heartfelt video to appeal for support, as the Garden City venue faced the very real danger of closing down. One viral crowd-funding campaign and some two years later, the cultural hub as not only gotten stronger, but has now expanded with a new branch New Cairo.

Serving as a free-spirited platform for artists of all sorts to perform, collaborate and commune, the venue has become an important and influential cornerstone of a city that is in dire need of more contemporary performance venues outside of the bar circuit - and it serves a mean brew, too.

Considerably larger than its Garden City counterpart, the New Cairo branch, which is located in the Spot Mall, boasts indoor and outdoor areas that are able to accommodate up to 400 people, as well as a revamped food menu - yeah, they do food, too.

Hitting the ground running, the opening night welcomed the 1920s European jazz inspired spunds of the Gypsy Jazz Project, as well as Egyptian string foursome, the Awtar Quartet.

As has become ROOM's trademark, expect to find everything from music and spoken word performance, to film screening, exhibitions and talks, as well as an atmosphere that's perfect studying or simply hanging-out. It's open everyday between 9AM and 1AM.
