Here’s a Map of Egypt’s Most Popular Lunchtime Meals but in Colours

Polish Pyszne.pl went on a colour-crazed mission to unveil the colour palette of each country’s standard lunchtime meal. Research shows that color is the most effective sensory cue, so the folks behind Pyszne.pl took that and ran. They began the ambitious process by scanning a reputable restaurant review site and picking out the most popular lunchtime dish for each country—basically each country’s national dish.

After analyzing more than three million restaurant reviews from 151 unique countries, they then examined the color hues of each of the countries’ most popular dishes and displayed them for the world to marvel at.

Egypt’s food colour palette is based on what Pyszne considers to be our national lunchtime meal: shawerma. Yeah, you guessed it. To be honest, we probably would have gone with koshary but it wouldn’t really change the coluor palette much then. The shawerma-based colour palette features a spectrum of beige, brown, orange and purple tones, all muted. Makes sense, beige for the warmed flatbread stuffed with a mouthwatering array of meat, purple onion, tomato, cucumber and tahini or yogurt sauce (although we have to politely disagree with that and say toumeya rules supreme).

North Africa’s colours followed the similar muted warm palette with soft browns, dark reds and a range of beiges with the occasional green peppered in.
