Maram's New Collection Manifests Our Inner Auras With 'Eyes Wide Open'

After diving into the subconscious, designer Maram Aboul Enein swam back up bringing with her a series of Egyptian ready-to-wear garments. Subsequent to her training alongside renowned fashion houses such as Pierre Balmain, Zac Posen, and Oscar de la Renta, Abdoul Enein unearthed her own fashion endeavour and founded fashion label ‘Maram’ in 2014.

The label’s latest collection ‘Eyes Wide Open’ - inspired by the mysteries of quantum physics - picks up from where her previous collection ‘Celestial Sublimity’ left off, and serves as a microcosm for metaphysical energy exchange.

“I was watching these videos of people who have been colour-blind all their lives wearing wavelength-altering glasses and seeing colour for the first time,” Aboul Enein tells SceneStyled. “That moment of realisation, clarity, and euphoria is the easiest way to explain what ‘Eyes Wide Open’ stands for. It represents a moment of truth when everything just suddenly makes sense.”

The Spring/Summer 2022 collection is all about connecting with our subconscious and through that rekindling, unveiling clearer versions of ourselves as well as the spaces we occupy.

“Even though the collection is inspired by these big concepts, it was important for me that the end product is easy and lighthearted. Children often operate from this elevated level of pure joy and curiosity, I wanted the pieces to spark that same feeling when worn,” Aboul Enein explains. “Translating such theoretical concepts into something physical is always an exciting challenge because it all comes down to emotions.”

In Aboul Enein’s prolific attempt at capturing the indescribable, she expresses the abstract nature of this state of being through colour and texture, actualising these feelings by creating clothing that inspires similar emotions when you wear them, when you see them, when you feel them move on your body.
