Rebel’s Zahya Collection Channels Cinematic Masterpiece Aroos El Nile

After a four-month hiatus, local fashion innovators Rebel Cairo has ripped the cobwebs from under which they were buried and are back with another woven storyline, ‘The Zahya Collection’.

Riddled with nostalgia and quaint references to the films that punctuated our childhood, the collection channels the prolific dexterity present within Shady Abdel Salam’s film designs in ‘Aroos El Nile’ and ‘Shagaret El Durr’. Founder Dara Hasannein and visual artist Rana Samir took to their vision boards and sketchbooks to digitise what is proving to be their most extensive - and artistically inclined - collection yet.

“Aroos El Nile, one of my favourite films growing up, inspired this collection,” Hasannein tells SceneStyled. “It was my initial reference because, in all honesty, I don’t like confining myself or constraining my pieces to one theme.”

Echoing the brand’s focus on storytelling, each piece within the collection stands autonomously as a story in and of its own. “Shagaret El Durr is extremely whimsical in nature, it’s funny, and the protagonists, in all their eccentricity, inspired many of the pieces,” Hassanein continues. “Our peacock linen kimono is inspired by a scene where you see a peacock standing atop a table, which is a metaphorical representation of Shagaret El Durr’s own vigour and prowess.”

Drawing on designer, stylist and coveted creative Salam’s impeccable merging of culture and garments, Rebel’s Zahya collection offers a repository for cinematic masterpieces of histories past. Since the season of summer knits is well underway, the collection lends itself to the innovative trend without straying too far away from their traditional prints. Their yarn two-pieces are gorgeously patterned and beautifully figure-hugging. Staying true to the embroidered prints that saturated their winter cardigans, these sets bring a lighter, fluffier twist on the cult classics.
