Adopt a Pet at Nasr City's Animal Mercy Festival

It’s no secret that Cairo’s streets are overrun with stray cats and dogs, most of which are often neglected by society. These animals deserve a second chance at life, to be pampered and showered with attention. That’s what the organizers of Egypt’s first Animal Mercy Festival believe, which is why they’re setting up at Nasr City’s Armed Force Equestrian Club to give everyone a chance to adopt a stray dog or cat and bring them to a new, loving home.

The festival’s main purpose is to raise awareness on the benefits of pet adoption, and the exploitative nature of pet shops and online retailers, which are often supplied by unscrupulous breeders. The organisers will also highlight the efforts of civil groups to eliminate animal torture and exploitation, and discuss Egypt’s animal cruelty laws. These discussions will be led by leading figures in Egypt’s animal rights field including animal rights activist Dina Zulfikar, Dr. Hatem Sitteen aka “Doctor of Mercy”, and members from the ESMA Association for Animal Welfare, the largest animal shelter in Egypt.

The event will take place this Friday, May 21st, and is free to enter at the Armed Force Equestrian Club’s Horse Land Center.
