Cairo University Eco-Racing Team Wins at Global Shell Eco-Marathon

Cairo University’s  Faculty of Engineering took home an impressive total of three awards at the  ‘Shell Eco-Marathon’, where they competed against more than 89 international universities to design eco-friendly cars. Three teams competed in three different categories of the ‘Off-Track Awards’ section to secure first, second, and fifth place awards.

The first place team competed in the ‘Design Innovation and Simulation’ category, taking the ALTAIR-Simulator Innovate Award home, an award for solutions to help design cars optimally with a prize of USD 1500.

Cairo University came in second place in the ‘Communications’ category with a prize of USD 750. Finally, the university team won fifth place in the ‘Autonomous Programming Challenge’ for developing self-driving programs for small cars.

The three Cairo University teams were made up of 80 male and female students from different departments of the college. They were joined by engineering students from other local universities as well, including Ain Shams University, Helwan University, and Alexandria University.
