Egypt's Biggest Comic Book Convention is Taking Over Zamalek

Hey! You! Do you love comics? We don't just mean the Spider-Man and Batman and X-Men kind of comics, even though they are indeed dope. We mean every kind of comics, where you go on adventures with classics like Asterix and Obelix or get all too involved in a web of relationships with quality indie work like in Love and Rockets. Cairo has a scene for people like you, and it emerges from inky murks of obscurity every year with CairoComix, a festival by comics lovers, for comics lovers.

Although they were MIA for the past year due to a certain pandemic, CairoComix is coming back this November with a big in-person meetup, this time at Zamalek's Mahmoud Mukhtar Museum, dedicated to one of Egypt's most iconic sculptures. Here you will be able to participate in forums, listen to engaging talks by artists, and visit the ComicSouk which we highly recommend based on personal experience, as there you will be able to peruse a vast selection of independent artists and large publishing houses showing off their range of illustrations, comics and full-fledged graphic novels.

You will also be able to explore comics in-depth in their special exhibitions, which centre around three pieces of work: 'Shamsa & Dana', an Egyptian comic that began in 1979 about two 12-year-old girls who live just outside the city, 'Saison des Roses', a French comic about a young female football player who wants to start a team at her high school, and the works of Bahij Jaroudi, a Lebanese artist with a vast background of comics behind him.

CairoComix will run from November 5th to November 7th, and is totally free to enter.
