How Bad is Egypt's Smartphone Addiction Compared to Everyone Else?

First of all we're fully aware that no matter what we tell you, you're not going to be surprised. You know full well how addicted Egyptians are to their smartphones. In fact, you're probably reading this on your smartphone right now after scrolling through Instagram for an hour straight, aren't you? Well we're not here to judge. We're just here to spit facts. And this time, the facts come courtesy of Canada's McGill University, which ranked Egypt as the ninth most addicted nation out of a selection of 24 countries when it comes to their smartphones.

Who are these countries who beat us out on our mobile mania? Coming in at eighth place is Turkey, topped by Canada at seventh. Iran is the sixth most addicted nation, but not as addicted as South Korea at fifth place. Brazilians can't put down their phones in fourth place, while Malaysians are wearing down their touchscreens in third place. Saudi Arabians are the second most addicted nation in the world, keeping one eye on their smartphones while keeping the other locked on their big NEOM project.

Finally, coming in at number one is China, which - considering the total hold companies like ByteDance and Tencent have on mobile content - should be expected. They kind of own that entire sector. (And while we're on the subject of Chinese mobile platforms, do follow us on TikTok at @CairoScene, please and thank you).

And if you were wondering what the least addicted nation is, it's Germany, which has apparently achieved much better phone/life balance than the rest of us at 24th place. Gut gemacht, Germany. Good for you.
