Seek Self-Love & Self-Reflection With 'Let it Out' Journals

As a psychology major and the founder of ‘Let it Out’, Karla Meleka, spends her mornings deep-diving into the human subconscious and her evenings calculating means to navigate her findings. Having just launched in late 2021, the spirit that sits at the core of the brand is one of Egypt’s more tangible,  practical attempts at cultivating a self-reflective form of self-love. The physical journals do not subscribe to the clunky 300-page yearly reflection journals that we see stacked on shelves and swiftly avoid at all costs. They’re booklet-style exercises, perfect for those of us still dipping our toes into the world of journaling - a world that can be intimidating to the psychologically-shackled.

“I’ve spent a whole year trying to figure out what was the root cause of our problems as a generation,” Meleka told #CairoScene. “I reached the conclusion that it had to do with the ‘Self’. Self-awareness, self-worth, self-esteem, and self-love. It made me start thinking about as many solutions as I could, and that’s when I came up with ‘Let It Out’,” she explains. “That’s when I realised that it’s beyond an idea. It’s a mindset, a journey.”

For a long time, ‘Let it Out’ was just a mere concept, and in order to see it come to fruition, Meleka had to go on something of a journey herself. Understanding the risks of taking on such a niche venture and the mainstream resistance towards these concepts. But she followed what she preaches, stepped out of her comfort zone, and put her heart into making ‘Let it Out’ offer real value.

“What I’m proud of most is that people are actually more aware of their needs which makes them appreciate the importance of mental health,” she said defiantly. “They understand the idea behind ‘Let It Out’, and take part in it although it’s still a new concept in Egypt. I hope one day Let It Out can become a place you can come to.”
