Medical education and technology company TEAMS has signed a partnership agreement with the University of Texas Medical Branch to establish a new chapter in Egypt.

The goal of the project is to create a medical educational edifice that will include a college of nursing, public health and health sciences as well as to encourage the exchange of students and professors between the US and Egypt, in addition to cooperation in scientific research and development. Students at the new branch will also be able to earn certificates that will be recognised in both the US and Egypt.

Costing nearly USD 300 million in investment, the agreement was signed after a year of negotiations. TEAMS and the University of Texas Medical Branch are currently deciding between two 35-acre locations in Sheikh Zayed and Madinat Al Salam.

Right now, TEAMS is working with banks in Egypt to launch a financing programme for university students with a soft interest of around three or four percent, with the stipulation that the students pay those installments once they’ve secured employment after graduation.

TEAMS was recently established  by Dr. Hossam Badrawi in partnership with Dr. Osama Hamdy, a professor at Harvard University, with the aim of implementing innovative projects in the medical and educational field across Egypt. Dr. Badrawi is one of the most prominent medical investors in Egypt, having established the Nile Badrawi Hospital in 1984 and the Medicare Middle East in 1998.
