9 Gorgeous New Restaurants in Cairo

You might toss it aside as irrelevant, but let’s face it: we all have eyes bigger than our bellies, and the atmosphere we dine in eventually ends up filling up much more of our appetite than we like to believe. And God knows Cairo is heading off to become the regional hub for foodies, with the launch of a new restaurant nearly every week.

From the royally luscious, to the quirky, to the vintage chic, to the gobally trending eco-look, the choice of our favourite eateries has more to do with the way the place made us feel than the taste of the plate itself. We snap them, we Instagram them, and we repeatedly fail to imitate their style at every corner of our own dining rooms. We're always on the lookout for stunning spots to eat (or drink) and as the past 12 months have seen a flurry of picturesque restaurants emerge, we decided to venture into listing our most recent culinary favourites based on their gorgeous appeal.

The Smith

Designed by Egyptian mastermind Mahmoud Abbas, this newly launched restaurant-cafe is delectable inside out. Crafted with a combination of influences across the vintage and retro mindset, The Smith kills it at staying refreshingly sexy. While some vintage cafes might seem like an invitation to grandma’s tea party, this international restaurant-bar located in Heliopolis brings the concept of vintage British lifestyle to Cairo’s dinning habits.

Eatery

A sublime invitation to the senses, covered in greenery and sizzling with the fresh scent of the organic ingredients used in their cooking school, The Eatery is a vivacious spot located in Cairo Festival City where eating is a pleasure and cooking is the ultimate in chic.

The Edwards

With an unbeatable intimate-retro design, The Edwards takes you on a journey through the 60s through a carefully curated array of artifacts such as vintage telephones, quirky lamps, and gramophones that set the scene for a major kick-back in time.

Hakamoro

It can be both the place to feel at home or to fire up your girls-night-out if you go to its weekly ladies night. With a modern, sumptuous look, the restobar will set the mood for a hell of a night.

Kazoku

With a name that embodies its raison-d’etre (Kazoku means family in Japanese), this Asian spot is extravagant in the classiest way, embodying both the shelter for the demanding palate and a hot spot for the lovers of a refined setup.

Levant Cuisine

With light interiors and a refreshing dose of Middle Eastern pride, Levant Cuisine is the chic alternative to a downtown Beirut night out if you can't quite manage the flight to Lebanon. Located in Sheikh Zayed, this artsy-looking restaurant has an enticing outdoor space for the young and the old.

The Tap East

Located in Stella Compound in New Cairo, The Tap East finally gives Cairo that hip, fun place where you don’t need to look around to see if anyone is watching you eat chicken with all fingers. Its chill garden, the dose of graffiti and the colourful sets of drinks set the perfect mood for the upcoming summertime madness.

Antique Khana

Quirky, artistic, and fabulously authentic. Set at the heart of Zamalek in Brazil Street, Antique Khana keeps it real with an ambient that stays true to its origins and a service that makes you feel like letting your hair down for an aperitif and a drink.

U Bistro & Bar

If you want to feel like an English lord who doesn’t take no for an answer, this is the place. Located right on 26th of July Street in classy Zamalek, the restaurant’s dark and mysterious look is an invitation for intellectual digressions and palate talk.
