Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, & Sudan Sweep the Afrima Awards Nominations

North African stars like Manal, Marwan Moussa, DJ Snake, & more have absolutely dominated this year's Afrima Awards nominations.

There has been an immense upshoot in artists from the North African region now that music is more accessible for the masses to utilize; the talent has always been there, it was just a matter of resources and outreach, and the result is a flood of talented musicians, producers, rappers, and singers cascading into our playlists. These past couple of years especially have seen a huge abundance of releases from Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, and Sudan.

The African Music Awards ‘Afrima’ has announced the final list of artists nominated for its new edition of 2022, and its awards ceremony is scheduled to take place next November. The Executive Committee of the awards, in cooperation with the African Union Commission, selected a total of 382 nominations for male and female artists from all over the African continent, out of more than 9,000 entries, which is a historical number for the awards. The selected nominations represent the five regions in Africa, West, East and Southern Africa. Central Africa and Arab nominations based in the North African region.

North African artists are making their historical mark this year by obtaining the logic with 49 nominations, in a precedent that has not happened before in the history of African awards, in addition to the emergence of a number of Arab stars and their entry into the competition for the first time also for the most important awards classifications, as the best African artist of the year and best song.

The African Music Awards are the most prestigious music awards on the continent and come under the auspices of the African Union Commission. President of AFRIMA, Mike Dada, said that the African Music Awards aims to celebrate the musical culture in the African continent and honor the creativity of its artistic talents from singers and musicians, and to convey their creativity for the whole world to see in cooperation with the African Union Commission to celebrate the African artistic legacy. He also revealed that this year's awards ceremony will be broadcasted live on more than 84 TV stations in 109 countries around the world.
