Muslim Designer Makes History With Stunning Hijab Collection at New York Fashion Week

History has been made and jaws have collectively dropped at New York Fashion Week catwalk, as a Muslim fashion designer unveils a stunning collection featuring hijabs.30-year-old Anniesa Hasibuan is the talk of the Big Apple this week after becoming the first Indonesian fashion designer to  unveil a conservatively chic collection at New York Fashion Week. Hasibuan floored audiences with her Spring Summer’17 collection D’Jakarta, which showcased 48 looks in an array of pastel colours using a combination of silk, lace, chiffon, and mesmerizing metallic embroidery inspired by her home city.

Travelling down the runway, each model donned a beautiful hijab in gold, pale pink and grey. Considered one of the biggest fashion events in the world, the stunning inclusion of hijabs on every model is an historic runway first. The incredibly daring and yet conservatively chic collection proves there is a balance between culture conservatism and being beautifully powerful and fashionable. The collection received a standing ovation from the 125,000 people in attendance and with over another 2 million watching online via live streams, it may just be safe to say that the hijab has finally taken a massively fashionable step forward.
