 The Catwalk Comes to Karnak

The valley of kings is set to become the valley of fashionistas as word spreads that the iconic Luxor Temple will host its very first international fashion festival in December.

Egypt continues to try and find new exciting ways to attract tourists back to the country. According to Al Masry al Youm, the festival will be held under the patronage of the Antiquities Ministry, State Information Services, and the Tourism Promotion Authority.

The festival aims to bring in major trendsetting Arab fashion designers and entertainers for a catwalk show like no other. Allegedly, the festival was a suggestion by beloved Emirati designer Mona Mansoury who believes this one of a kind international fashion festival will grab the world’s attention while showcasing “majestic ambiance of the astonishing Egyptian ancient civilization.”

The idea of a fashion festival in one of the birthplaces of civilization has enormous potential and could really boost tourism in a country that desperately needs it. The festival is said to be called “Come to Egypt”. Hopefully imagination and creativity will shine past the terribly unoriginal festival title. The festival’s success will hinge on whether they actually curate an impressive fashion festival with relevant industry leaders and entertainers, rather than simply putting together a random show that will be attended by prominent officials to convince tourists Egypt is safe.
