Luxor Named Tourism Capital of The World 2016

Statues all over Luxor are celebrating today as it's been announced that the ancient city has been named World Tourism Capital of 2016 by the UNWTO (United Nation’s World Tourism Organization).

What this means is that a group of tourism ministers sat around a table in Malaga, Spain earlier this month and decided that Luxor seems like a decent place for a holiday after Egypt chaired under the title 'Tourism and Security: Towards a Framework for Safe, Secure and Seamless Travel'.

Luxor was unanimously chosen by 50 countries to host the activities of the 104th World Tourism Forum from Oct. 30 through Nov. 1 of this year, and will also host the 5th Global Summit on City Tourism from Nov. 1 through Nov. 3.

This is the second piece of good news to hit Egypt's tourism industry this week following Germany's decision to lift the ban on direct flights to Sharm.
