Swim with Horses in Egypt's Red Sea

Swimming with horses (yes literally swimming) in the waters of Egypt’s Red Sea may be one of the most unforgettable experiences you’ll ever add to your bucket-list…

From air ballooning over the otherworldly landscapes of Cappadocia to standing on the edge of an Icelandic hot spring, the travel bucket-list of your mind has likely been shaped by oft-repeated insta-moments that once experienced rarely live up to the fashioned and filtered image.

So if you’re visiting Egypt - indeed if you're already in Egypt (as many of you following along probably are!) - may we remind you that beyond the ancient monuments and bustling souqs that most readily capture the attention of global wanderlusters, there are plenty of unforgettable experiences waiting to be discovered. One of our favourites has to be swimming with horses in the Red Sea.

Nestled in El Gouna (a gorgeous resort community 20 minutes from Hurghada International airport) ‘Habiba Horse’ is a unique stable that offers guests exhilarating rides across the town’s pristine stretches of beach, but most spectacularly literally IN the warm clear blue waters of the Red Sea against a magical mountainous backdrop.

Founded by German native Kerstin Engles in 2016, the Habiba Horse stables cater to both beginners and seasoned riders, offering a tailored assortment of experiences including galloping across the rugged desert terrain and by the Bedouin villages that encircle the El Gouna.  “No words can describe the feeling when the horse loses ground and actually swims together with you,” Engles tells #SceneTraveller.  “Lots of our guests do not even know that horses can swim (from nature) and tell us that they will never forget these magical moments they spent”.

You can book your ride at Habibi Horse by calling 0100 426 1473 or emailing habibahorse@gmail.com.

Egypt Air runs multiple flights per day (approx. one hour flying time) from Cairo International Airport to Hurghada International airport.
