USD 5 Billion 'Moon Resort' Brings Space Travel Down to Earth in Dubai

When the moon hits your eye like this place in Dubai, that’s amore. Flying to the moon is no longer reserved for highly-trained astronauts, billionaires, or those billionaires’ cars; an upcoming luxury resort is being built in Dubai with its own man-made moon, allowing an expected 2.5 million visitors a year to experience life on its lunar surface for themselves for as little as USD 500.

Developed by Canada-based architectural design and intellectual property licensor Moon World Resorts Inc, the entire project hopes to make space tourism more accessible than it has ever been before. The 90-minute tour of the moon will include a simulated Shuttle flight within the building’s interiors towards the surface of the moon, where visitors-turned-astronauts will be able to visit an authentic lunar colony.

The ultra-luxury resort will include a wellness center, a nightclub, and 300 private residential units referred to as ‘Sky Villas’. The members of these villas will also become members of an exclusive private club on the resort. The man-made moon will also be lit up to reflect the phases of the actual moon in the sky, bringing the night sky all the way down to Earth. The massive resort will cost USD 5 billion and is set to be built over 48 months at a height of 735 feet, with plans to build three more similar moon resorts in the US, Spain and Singapore.
