Ahotel is the First Portable Hotel on the North Coast

Set on a cliff overlooking the sensual party beaches of Silver Sands lies Egypt’s new innovative concept in luxury accommodation, Ahotel. A portable hotel designed to be built and dismantled again at the end of the summer, Ahotel is a getaway founded on simplicity, innovation and liberation.

“The idea for portable hotel rooms I based on the concept of ‘out of nowhere, to now here,’” Ahotel’s founder and designer Hassan Abaza tells SceneTraveller. “This idea is expansive, and we can dismantle and rebuild the structure in just over a month.”

The hotel is simple and minimalist in its design and décor. Its interior designs feature breezy colour schemes of peachy and deep oranges and pure whites. “There is no air-conditioning, and no noise. This is not your cliché Sahel hotel,” Abaza says. Sculptures of the hippo are scattered around the hotel’s common areas. “The hippo symbolises the adage of ‘see no evil, hear no evil’, which is exactly what Ahotel is about. This is a liberating space, based on new ideas, non-attachment and on simplicity.”

Apart from the central hotel, which features 10 rooms, the establishment also includes a beach bar and restaurant, named the Aho-bar and Aho-restaurant respectively. “Apart from the staples on our breakfast and lunch menus, our dinner idea is new and fresh. We call it the ‘Trust Bar’,” Abaza says. “Guests help themselves to sandwiches, fruits and other simple foods from the fridge. There is no monitoring who takes what and when, it is just based on trust.”

The hotel was constructed over just a month and half and will be dismantled again at the end of the summer. “Ahotel comes from the colloquial Egyptian word ‘aho’, or ‘there it is’, because we envision our hotel popping up all over.” The following weeks will see some of Egypt’s biggest DJs performing at the establishment and at neighbouring beach club, Silvertown.

“This summer was just our trial. We want the concept to grow and envision spots all over the Nile, El Gouna and in desert locations,” Abaza explains.

This burgeoning new concept is one to watch out for on your future trips. You never know where it might find it next.
