$1.6 Million Campaign Supporting Egypt's Cotton Industry to Kick Off In 2017
The Ministries of Agriculture, Trade and Industry, UNIDO, the Italian government, are all collaborating in developing Egypt's cotton industry with the campaign 'Egyptian Cotton: Returning to Life'.
Earlier this month, Al Ahram Agriculture News reported on the Industrial Day – Egypt Developing conference, hosted by the UNIDO and attended by Minister of Trade and Industry Tarek Qabil, which witnessed a launch of Egypt's newest project campaign, 'Egyptian Cotton: Life Returns'.
The project, which is set to be launched in 2017 and last for two years, is said to cost about USD 1.6 million, funded by the Italian government and implemented through UNIDO, according to Al Ahram Agriculture. The goal is essentially for Egypt to return to its production of Egyptian long-staple cotton, which was of impeccable internationally recognised quality. Through this project, they hope to develop the supply chain and support farmers.
This is not the only project that is being undertaken by both the ministry and UNIDO in Egypt; last month, the date industry's noted development was seen in the Palm Festival in Siwa, as Egypt accounts for 16.6 percent of the world's date production.
Finally, Qabil asserts that Egyptian Cotton: Life Returns is not only part of the Green Trade initiative launched by UNIDO, but also one of the many ways the Egyptian government is working towards its Egypt 2030 plan, which hopes to provide sustainable and comprehensive development for current citizens, and those in the future.
