Foreign Residents Represent 8.7% of Egypt's Population

According to recent estimates, foreign residents now represent more than 8.7% of Egypt’s population. This means there are now more than nine million foreign residents and refugees from 133 countries living in Egypt.

The biggest groups of migrant populations in Egypt consist of residents from Sudan, Syria, Yemen and Libya. The gender distribution among these residents is nearly equal, with males comprising 50.4% and females 49.6%, while the average age stands at 35.

These figures were revealed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly at a meeting to review Egypt’s efforts in caring for foreign residents. During the meeting, the participants reviewed the total cost borne by the state for caring for its foreign residents, including healthcare, social solidarity services, food, and other services. They also reviewed the educational services provided to refugee students and the efforts made by the Ministry of Education to expand classroom infrastructure in response to the growing numbers.
