ISIS Claims Responsibility for Terrorist Attack on Police Checkpoint Near St. Catherine Monastery

One police officer was killed and three others were injured in an attack on a police checkpoint on the South Sinai highway leading to the St. Catherine Monastery on Tuesday. Terrorist group ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement released on their news outlet A'maq, Al Ahram reports.

According to Deputy Minister of Health in South Sinai Khaled Abo Hashem, all three injured officers are receiving the necessary medical care and their conditions are stable.

The attack comes 9 days after the deadly bombings of Palm Sunday in Tanta and Alexandria, also claimed by the aforementioned terrorist group.
