From Al-Fustat to Al-Azhar, Cable Cars Might Become Tourists' New Best Mode of Transport
Ditch driving for a view.
Remember when metros were above ground rather than below? This is even better. Cairo is about to give public transportation a facelift with cable cars coming for the first time in the city, and it’s all to upgrade tourism between Al-Fustat and Al-Azhar.
In an attempt to boost tourism, Egypt is planning to restore and re-highlight the statuses of its old historic neighbourhoods by introducing new transportation systems to provide better connectivity between the areas and facilitate sustainable movement. These include cable cars to travel between Al-Azhar and Al-Fustat parks, as well as electric buses covering Al-Fustat and Islamic Cairo.
The plan is part of intensified renovations taking over Al-Fustat and Ayn El-Sirah neighbourhoods in favour of the development and restoration of their once-significant cultural value.
